Custody Evaluations

A custody evaluation is performed by a neutral psychologist who has specialized training. The psychologist collects and analyzes information gathered from parents and children in order to make recommendations to the court about the parenting plan that best meets the needs of the children.

A custody evaluation consists of interview(s) with each parent, interview(s) with each child, observations of each parent with the children, parenting questionnaires, and psychological testing. A comprehensive report is written detailing the results of the evaluation and recommendations for a parenting plan are made to the court.  The court, however makes the final decision about the parenting plan.
